Sunreef Yachts relies on Dassault Systèmes for the development
Catamarans, where luxury and customization come together in perfect harmony, have one address: Sunreef Yachts in Danzig. The exclusive power and sailing yachts of the Polish yacht builder are in demand by customers from all over the world. In the shipyard in Gdansk, where shipbuilding has a long tradition, Sunreef’s experts make “tailor-made” dreams come true – and they are allowed to be extremely big.
“The interest in large catamarans is growing”, knows Francis Lapp, the founder of Sunreef Yachts. The first catamaran with flybridge was built in their shipyard, as well as the world’s first double-deck catamaran or the first multi-hull carbon super yacht. The current challenge is a super yacht: 49 meters long, 17 meters wide – and an adventure.
To leave a lasting impression with the craftsmanship, Sunreef is committed to the flag. For the design and construction of the luxury catamarans, the experts rely on the powerful simulation applications from Dassault Systèmes. “SOLIDWORKS is an important tool for us and has a decisive influence on the hull design,” says Peter Hinczewski, head of the design office at Sunreef, and explains: “Using Simulia XFlow, the behavior of the hulls in the water can be predicted under the most varied conditions. We can see the water pressure and the areas where resistance increases”. In the hull design, the appropriate corrections are then made.
With realistic simulation for shape optimization
Designers can experiment with new, unconventional hulls, and thanks to the large number of parameters that can be combined during the simulation, real tests can be reduced. The result: impressive luxury catamarans that exclusively fulfill a customer’s dream and are both powerful and environmentally friendly. And Sunreef catamarans also stand for originality. “Originality is definitely part of the Sunreef DNA,” emphasizes Francis Lapp.
Since 2011, Sunreef Yachts has relied on DPS Software Poland, a company of the NTR Group, for consulting, implementation, support and training around SOLIDWORKS. “Sunreef was looking for a partner who could offer them a comprehensive solution for the design and production with CNC machines,” says Józef Skoworodko, Key Account Director at DPS Software Poland: “The yacht builder was particularly interested in software packages that help him to realize the complete catamaran – including interior design – according to the individual expectations of even the most demanding customers.
